Create a page introduction with excerpts
Usually a common feature for our themes, you can add a page introduction using excerpts. The excerpt will show just under the page title, whether it’s a basic page or a page using the Hero Featured Image. Create or open any page. In the editor, look for the Excerpt box and write your introduction. Click […]
Serifi Colour Options
We’ve already covered the basic colour options that come with our themes with a Colour Setting tutorial—Common Setup. However, this theme does offer something slightly different with presets. In the customizer, there are two colour tabs. The first is for the preset options, while the second one has a colour setting for the “content background”. […]
Hide banner captions when using the image widget
This is primarily for the banner sidebar whenever you use the Image Widget. If your image has a caption when displaying this widget, you can show or hide the caption. Go to Appearance > Customize > Other Options Look for the Hide Banner Captions setting and toggle it to turn blue (disables it). Click the Publish button.
Disable and hide the top search icon
Not only should this hide the icon, but it also won’t load the search modal (popup search window). Go to Appearance > Customize > Other Options Look for the Hide the Header Search Icon setting and toggle it to turn blue (disables it). Click the Publish button.
Turn all photos into black & white

As the live demo site shows, Serifi Pro includes a splash (landing) page template that you can use for your website’s front page. Whatever you decide to do with your splash page will be up to you, but showcasing a large image as you see on the Serifi demo website, can give an amazing impact. […]
Change text labels for many elements
Rather than create separate tutorials, I will roll them up into this one. Text labels vary, depending on where you are looking on pages and posts. For example, here is a list of labels that you can change in Serifi (mostly in the pro version). “Featured” Label on sticky posts “Read More” link Comment “Author” […]
Hide the archive prefix labels
It’s puzzling why WordPress has not put this feature into the core of WordPress, but many people want it. Most of our themes have this option, including both the free and pro version of Serifi. This is what the archive prefix labels look like: Although some people might want this, others do not. So, we […]

Although we have touched based on thumbnail creation for our themes in the Common Setup tutorials, here is a quick recap for Serifi. NOTE: Thumbnail options are available for Serifi Pro. The function/feature of automatically creating thumbs for featured image uploads is going to be similar across most themes. The only exception is that the […]
Change the page hero image height
Similar to the tutorial about changing the height for the “post” hero image, the page version will be done the same way. There is one more height setting for the Showcase (page) Template. Go to Appearance > Customize > Page Options Look for the Minimum Hero Image Height setting and move the slider to your preferred pixel height. […]

Available only with Serifi Pro, anyone reading your post (article) will be able to view additional posts that are related. These are displayed at the bottom of each post: Related Post Label Related Post Excerpt For related posts, you can hide at least a couple of elements; outlined above. Go to Appearance > Customize > Post […]
Change the post Hero featured image height
Sometimes a featured image, when used as a hero-type header needs more viewable space. This theme includes a setting to change the hero image height. The only caveat to this option is that this will apply to all posts when using the Hero post layout. The default height is set to 450px, but you can […]
Use excerpts for your blog posts
There are more advantages to using excerpts over the standard method WordPress does where you need to insert a “more-link” into your post editor to create a split. This theme gives you the option to use either method—although some blog layouts (including the pro version) require excerpts. NOTE: Some blog layout styles use excerpts by […]
Add a blog introduction
By default, WordPress does not give you the ability to create a blog introduction-type heading. For categories, you get the title and a description, but nothing for the blog home page. We made one for you (Pro version). We do this a little differently from other themes that offer this capability by selecting a page […]
