Purified Portfolio

The Purified theme has the ability to help you to create a personal portfolio using the Portfolio Post Type plugin.

The first thing you will want to do before moving on to the next stage is to install and activate this plugin by Devin Price.

A nice feature about the portfolio is that you can use actual pages to choose 1 of 2 portfolio templates that we made available:

1. Portfolio Grid (2 Columns)
2. Portfolio Grid (3 Columns)

We also included a few other options:

1. Show or hide excerpts from the portfolio project summaries.
2. Setting up a portfolio category menu.

Creating a Portfolio Page

To use a template, we need to create a page for our portfolio that will display all your portfolio posts from all categories.

1. Go to  Pages > Add New
2. Enter the Portfolio page title, such as My Portfolio. For the block editor, you can also add text and blocks in front of the project list.
3. If you are using the block editor, click the tab on the right panel. Then click the Page Attributes tab. In the Templates drop-down menu, select one of the portfolio templates listed in the drop-down.
4. Click the Publish button.

Creating Portfolio Categories

Although not required, you should create at least 1 portfolio category.

1. Click on the Portfolio tab in the admin menu column and then go to Portfolio Categories
2. Title your category to what you want, just like you would for a blog category and then type a category description.
3. Click the Add new portfolio category button

Creating a Project

The process of creating a project page is the same as the process of creating a post/page but we will be adding our project from the Portfolio location in our Administration area.

We added custom fields for portfolio projects, which will show up below the editor. These are generic blank fields that allow you to create your own details with a custom title and then any relevant content for that title. Here is an example set of fields:

• Go to the Portfolio tab in our administration menu column–usually found under the Posts tab.
• Click the Add New Item sub-tab.
  1. Title your project
  2. Type out project introduction
  3. (First Optional Setting) Add a label and short details for Info 1.
  4. (Second Optional Setting) Add a label and short details for Info 2.
  5. (Third Optional Setting) Add a label and short details for Info 3.
  6. Add a link to showcase the project, such as a link to the client website.
• Click Publish or Update
• Repeat for additional portfolio projects (posts).

Portfolio Excerpts

You can show or hide portfolio project excerpts. An example of excerpts will look like a blog post summary:

To disable the excerpts, follow these steps:

1. Go to Appearance > Customize > Other Options
2. Check the box next to the Show or Hide Portfolio Excerpts
3. Click the Publish button

Adding You Portfolio Page to the Menu

All that you have to do now is to add your portfolio page to your website’s main menu. You can also add a portfolio category to your menu if you want to display a specific category. When adding categories to your menu, you will get something like this:

1. Go to Appearance > Menus
2. In the menu screen, click on the text link Create a new menu, title your menu, then click the Create Menu button.
3. Now you can add your portfolio categories to your new menu.
4. At the bottom, assign this new menu to the Portfolio menu location under the Menu Settings section.
5. Click the Save Menu button.

NOTE: If you decide to temporarily disable your portfolio menu, you can go to Appearance > Customize > Other Options and then check the box next to the Show or Hide the Portfolio Post nav setting.
