When viewing the Definite demo site, you will see a featured post displayed at the top banner area. Normally themes will use a slider option, but we decided to make this less resource-intensive by letting you choose “any” blog post as your featured post.

With Definite (premium), we just added more flexibility and options for you. Previously, you just had 1 layout and the method of displaying a featured post was obscured. However, we made significant improvements. You now get the choice of displaying 1, 2, or 3 columns, each with a featured post that you select from the customizer.

NOTE: This new version of the featured post is only on the premium version of Definite.
Enable the Featured Post
By default, this featured post section is not enabled (as of version 2.0.0). The same will be for the Featured Pages section too. This tutorial will show how to enable either one:
- Go to the Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Posts & Pages.
- Look for the Enable the Featured Post setting and check the box to enable it.
- If you are enabling the Featured Pages section as well, check the box next to it.
- Click the
Publish
button.
Featured Post Heading Group
When you use either the Featured Posts or Featured Pages (or both at the same time), you can display, hide, and customize the section heading group.

- Go to the Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Posts & Pages.
- Look for the Featured Posts Heading Group setting and check the box to hide it. The same applies to the Featured Pages Heading Group.
- In addition to the heading group, when being displayed, you can customize the heading title and introduction with the text fields for Featured Post Title and the Featured Post Intro.
- Click the
Publish
button.
Featured Post Excerpt Size
Only the Featured Posts section has the excerpt and read more button.

- Go to the Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Posts & Pages.
- Look for the Featured Post Excerpt Size setting and change it to your preference. The number represents the word-count.
- Click the
Publish
button.
Hide Featured Post Elements
For the Featured Post(s), you can show or hide the elements being displayed.

- Go to the Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Posts & Pages.
- Look for the Hide the Featured Posts Excerpts setting and check the box to hide.
- Check the box next to Hide the Featured Posts Read More button.
- Click the
Publish
button.
We added two settings to give you the option to hide the featured post excerpts and the read-more buttons.
Select Featured Posts
Now that the featured posts have changed, you can now choose any blog post that you want to display.

- Go to the Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Posts & Pages.
- Look for the Featured Post 1 drop-down setting and select the post to display.
- Repeat for the Featured Post 2 and 3 if you plan to add more than just one.
- Click the
Publish
button.
Normally this should be done if you plan to use the front page featured post, so that when you upload a photo for your blog post, having this one thumbnail setting checked will also generate a pre-sized image.
